PROMINA – MAGARETAŠ

Areal view of Magaretaš climbing sector

The climbing area was bolted in 2024., by local climbers. Climbing sector is located at 840 m above sea level, which with its N – NE orientation is suitable for climbers in the warmer part of the year because it is in the shade all day after early morning. Due to Mt. Promina’s geomorfological history the rock has a specific quality. It is mostly vertical but slightly overhanging in the middle and 25m high at the highest point. The climbing area is organized in three sectors with a total of 32 routes. Grades for the routes range from 4a to 7c.

Promina is a mountain in Dalmatia, located north of the city Drniš and south of the city Knin, in the center of Šibenik-Knin County. Mount Promina is about 1148 meters high, where it dominates the entire landscape of the surrounding area and offers a wonderful view of the Miljevac Plateau and the Krka and Čikola rivers. Mountain lodge is located near the climbing area on the mountain. The tame and accessible mountain of Promina is bordered by macadam roads and paths, and there is an old road or path from every hamlet that leaned towards Promina as a source of natural goods and water. The fossils and ancient remains that we can find reveal its origin and the development of its crust. Numerous experts from the Austro-Hungarian period were fascinated by Promina and explained the uniqueness of its deposits with the term “Promina beds” (Northwestern area of Dalmatia is mostly covered by Promina beds that were generated in Dinaric foreland basin). It is a geo-morphological phenomenon that is locally known and cannot be found anywhere in the world. The mountain abounds in pine forest, springs and mineral wealth. Several footpaths and “off-road” paths lead to the top.
